  • Cole Air of Lake Charles, LA is the 2024 Medium Contractor of the Year winner. This company opened for business in 1985 and provides complete heating and cooling services. According to NCI CEO Dominick Guarino, company owner Dustin Cole is a strong proponent of High-Performance HVAC™ contracting and believes in continuous education, especially in HVACR and building performance work.

“This company has been on the High-Performance track for many years,” Guarino adds. “Their field service and installation team tests everything, from the building envelope to every aspect of the HVAC system. They obsess about successfully fixing long-standing issues with homes and HVAC systems through performance testing,” he said.

“They focus first and always on the customer’s needs and issues with the mission of getting things right. The owner, Dustin Cole, loves to train his people and share his knowledge with fellow contractors.”

  • Worley’s Home Services, Yorktown, VA is the 2024 Large Contractor of the Year recipient. Worley’s Home Service is an eight-year-old heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) company that has grown from only three employees to 75 people. In addition to servicing and installing HVAC systems, this company offers residential insulation, plumbing, electrical, crawlspace encapsulation, attic renovations, and other services to provide their customers with a one-stop shop approach.

David Richardson, vice president of training for NCI, presented Chuck Worley with this award during the High-Performance HVAC Summit awards banquet in September. Richardson said this team is all about perseverance and customer service.

“I can describe Chuck and his team with one word – grit,” he says. “I’ve seen him go from conditions that would break most men to a level of success most only dream of. But thanks to a strong work ethic, his willingness to outperform everyone around him, and his strong faith, he would not be where he is today.”

The award is named after the late John Garofalo, an HVAC industry icon and business coach for NCI. He was renowned for his ability to demonstrate what it means to be a servant leader. Garofalo was all about having sincere care for people, a “gettin’ ‘er done” attitude, and living with integrity. He preached High-Performance HVAC leadership, accountability, and implementation. John lost his battle with cancer in 2016.

The criteria for an HVAC company to win the NCI John Garofalo Implementation Award are as follows. The recipient:

  • Regularly delivers measured performance in every aspect of the business
  • Uses visible benchmarking/scoreboards with up-to-date performance results
  • Provides strong company leadership
  • Sets and practices ethical standards with humility
  • Constantly looking for ways to improve
  • The company’s personnel is willing to embrace change.

Vincent’s Heating and Plumbing of Port Huron, MI, was joined the ranks of companies that have received the the prestigious John Garofalo Implementation Awards. This award recognizes a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) company’s dedication to High-Performance HVAC™ Contracting, which, when put into practice, leads to helping them exceed customer expectations. Daniel Squires accepted the award on behalf of the company.
