The High-Performance HVAC Summit was held in Asheville, NC from September 9th through the 12th. During this annual one-of-a-kind event, XX contractors and their companies are recognized for their accomplishments during the pursuit of a high performance approach to business. This year market the 20th Awards ceremony.

The awards banquet is the opportunity for the team at National Comfort Institute (NCI) to shine a bright light on the real heroes of this group of outstanding individual and companies who, in the words of NCI CEO Dominick Guarino, “Are more than just NCI members and customers, they are the heart and soul of this great NCI family.”

He told the crowd of 200 attendees that their success is what keeps NCI going.

“We feel so blessed that you’ve chosen to become part of this caring group who continues to selflessly share what works and who also mentor each other,” Guarino said.

Without further ado, here are the winners, the awards, and what it all means.

The Awards Banquet at NCI's Summit is the highlight of the week.

NCI annually present three Contractor of the Year awards to companies that fit into one of three categories based on gross sales volume. These categories are as follows:

Small Contractor of the Year — This award recognizes outstanding achievement in High-Performance HVAC™ Contracting*, quality workmanship, and dedication to customer service. Companies earn under $2 million in sales annually in this award category.

Medium Contractor of the Year — Winners in this awards category are companies that also hit the quality, dedication to performance, and customer service attributes and achieve between $2 million and $6 million in annual sales.

Large Contractor of the Year — These companies display their prowess as High-Performance HVAC system advocates and achieve high levels of craftsmanship while best serving their customers. Their annual volumes are more than $6 million in sales annually.

Though the size of these companies differ, they all fits a given set of crieria established 20 years ago by National Comfort Institute. These criteria include:

  • The company must be in the process of or have already completed implementing High-Performance HVAC system testing as the National Comfort Institute prescribes.
  • The company must have a high-performance HVAC business culture in place or be in the process of implementing it.
  • The company must have a strong service department and sell and maintain service agreements.
  • As part of the High-Performance approach, the company must target HVAC system renovations in addition to equipment replacements.
  • Training must be part of the company culture.
