Last month the High-Performance HVAC Summit, held in Austin, TX from September 9-12. More that 210 contractors and others attended and set their compasses to Navigate their way to High Performance!

Hosted by National Comfort Institute (NCI), Summit brings together the best of the very best when it comes to High-Performance HVAC™ contractors. The highlight of this event is the Annual Award banquet where 11 contractors and their companies are recognized for their accomplishments as they pursue a high performance approach to business.

This year marks the 21st time NCI has presented these awards. NCI President and CEO Dominick Guarino told the banquet attendees that this is “our opportunity to spotlight real heroes who are doing more and going beyond just being NCI members and customers. You are the heart, the soul, and the foundation of this great NCI family.”

He added, “There is nothing in the world we’d rather be doing than working with the our customers day in, and day out to help you become more successful. It’s truly an honor and a privilege.”

Dominick Guarino, President and CEO of National Comfort Institute (NCI) welcomes attendees to the 21st Annual Awards banquet.

With that, he began presenting the winners, the awards, and what they all mean.

NCI annually present three Contractor of the Year awards to companies that fit into one of three categories based on gross sales volume. These categories are:

Small Contractor of the Year — This award recognizes outstanding achievement in High-Performance HVAC™ Contracting*, quality workmanship, and dedication to customer service. Companies earn under $2 million in sales annually in this award category.

Medium Contractor of the Year — Winners in this awards category are companies that also hit the quality, dedication to performance, and customer service attributes and achieve between $2 million and $6 million in annual sales.

Large Contractor of the Year — These companies display their prowess as High-Performance HVAC system advocates and achieve high levels of craftsmanship while best serving their customers. Their annual volumes are more than $6 million in sales annually.

Though the size of these companies differ, they all have a set of criteria established 21 years ago by NCI:

  • The company must be in the process of or have already completed implementing High-Performance HVAC system testing as the National Comfort Institute prescribes.
  • The company must have a high-performance HVAC business culture in place or be in the process of implementing it.
  • The company must have a strong service department and sell and maintain service agreements.
  • As part of the High-Performance approach, the company must target HVAC system renovations in addition to equipment replacements.
  • Training must be part of the company culture.
